Winona Ryder Professionally Winona Ryder, was born on Winona Minnesota. The parents of her daughter named her on her home town. Her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder is Jewish. Ryder believes that her father had an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder is the youngest sister of Uria, and has half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder's parents moved out of Mendocino County, California when she was seven years young. There they didn't have electricity. Ryder was a voracious reader who spent all of her time reading books because she was not able to watch TV. Ryder at the age of 12 was enrolled in the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in the year 1983. When she was 15, Ryder was cast in Lucas, her first major film. Ryder faced bullying during the school she attended. She hoped that her acting career would end this. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. However, she continued to pursue her dreams. Her breakthrough came with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice in 1988. Ryder was able to continue her successful performances in various films. She was nominated for two Academy Awards one for her part on The Age of Innocence (1993).
